The protagonist, Richard Hannay (Rupert Penry Jones of MI-5 and Persuasion fame) is caught up in a deadly conspiracy which not only threatens his life but the safety of Great Britain. It is based loosely on the adventure novel The Thirty-Nine Steps by John Buchan. He lets her hide in his flat, but when she's murdered, he must go on the run to save himself and to stop a spy ring from stealing secret information.

This Blu ray version is very good picture-wise as its been ‘cleaned up’ a bit and far better then the DVD version as the small details are very clear when compared, however.. Like the Blu Ray version of ‘The Dambusters’ I have also reviewed on Amazon, the sad fact is it’s still in its original 4:3 format as in the picture is still the same size-wise with dark ‘borders’ either side of the screen but bearing in mind that lesser well known films that were shot in this format at the time of production, they have now been ‘digitally restored’ and made into wide screen, so its a shame these classics have not had the same process as it would be great to have seen these old, classic films in a wide screen format.

I think it is time for a little truth telling. Voor een BBC thriller een zeer matige verfilming. Four star films should be for films that are highly enjoyable to watch but not particularly meaningful, or a four star could be for a film with both qualities but that could be a little better. En dat had ik niet verwacht hierdoor dus een wel verdien 4*, Fijn om David Haig uit 'The Thin Blue Line' hierin te zien, die knakker is echt nog niks veranderd, Helemaal geen onaardige remake van de Hitchcock-film, al overtreft hij de laatstgenoemde niet.
