This attitude changes on the next record “Because the Internet” as the production gets more hip-hop beat driven and less alt-rock driven. That being said, I see where you’re coming from in that if someone asked me which of his albums was I’d say “Camp” without a doubt as well. This is the most mainstream music he’s ever released, but I’d venture to say it remains the best. What it do, bitch? They couldn’t feel me, no vocation His work on Community was sublime absurdity, and the auteur’s touch he brings to Atlanta is simply brilliant.

I think what I love about Childish Gambino’s discography is his evolution as an artist. Change ), You are commenting using your Twitter account. Unsurprisingly, the one familiar track, "Feels Like Summer" (titled here as "42.26"), which was officially released in July 2018, is also the album's most accessible.

( Log Out /  March 15, 2020 The world has been a scary place since the coronavirus began spreading, but as we hunker down and practice social distancing and self-quarantining Childish Gambino has our backs. One of my favorites, off of “Camp”. Other tracks like “47.48” and “53.49” combine some of my favorite aspects of Gambino as an artist. And I’m lookin’ at her butt, that’s that 20/20 hindsight Can’t you hear me, baby? Now with this most recent album it seems like a mood combination of all three with musical aspects of all three as well. Song of the Day #4,432: ‘Sunrise’ – Childish Gambino I’m a big fan of Donald Glover as an actor, writer and overall entertainer. This remains true with his new release, 3.15.20, which he also has released as a single-track opus, which may explain the decision to have most of the individual tracks here titled as timestamps. ℗ 2020 MCDJ RECORDING, UNDER LICENSE TO RCA RECORDS, A DIVISION OF SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

All that said, I do love Childish Gambino’s debut album, 2011’s Camp. It was a surprise, then, to see a third name listed prominently in the credits for Childish Gambino’s new album, 3.15.20: DJ Dahi co-produced nine of the 12 tracks. If I had it my way I would love three versions of “Camp”, but I also respect his evolution as an artist and find the production and lyricism on all three of the albums that follow equally great in their own way. While they be sleepin’, I be onto that new shit Gary Clark Jr. Song of the Day #4,471: ‘The Time of Your Life’ – Randy Newman, Song of the Day #4,470: ‘Touch the Sky’ – Julie Fowlis. On “Camp” Childish Gambino is coming out on his first debut album with something to prove. What it do, bitch?

Ohh, can’t you hear me callin’ out your name? Childish Gambino performs onstage during the 2019 Outside Lands Music And Arts Festival at Golden Gate Park on August 10, 2019 in San Francisco, California. While they be sleepin’, I be onto that new shit, ayy, [Verse 2] That mischievous, mercurial nature carries over to the music itself—he explores the darker hues of the outré, playing with genre as much he does disjointed sound effects—atmospheric noise, glitches, distortion, uncanny Auto-Tune. Editors’ Notes I see he released a fourth album this past March that totally missed my radar, so maybe I should give that a listen. While they be sleepin’, I be onto that new shit (Ayy!) 3.15.20 is a logical progression from his experimental inclinations of the past that latches onto some of his most eccentric impulses and thrusts them into overdrive. I’ve seen it all, like I’m John Mayer’s penis hole Check Maxim.” (damn that’s a good lyric), but also his more reflective lines such as “My mom used to quote me psalm verses she don’t look at me like I’m the same person”.

I’ve seen the future, and the future go, ah. Murder verses the only motive was motivation Every statement that Gambino delivers he delivers unequivocally.
Black rock like a fuckin’ LOST episode Why these other rappers do shit stupid? He basks in the spaces between restraint and rebellion, genius and madness, forcing listeners to find the freedom in chaos. The soulful "24.19" and the optimistic closer "53.49" tread worn but welcome territory, while the foreboding futurism of "Time" and the sensory overload of "32.22" don't land like songs so much as cinematic collages brimming with ideas. The background singer at the end Dean really makes this song as well! My shit be Jackson, Jordan, Bolton, Keaton, Tyson, 5 Mikes The axiom "expect the unexpected" doesn't quite capture what Gambino has put together here—perhaps, this time, it's better not to expect anything at all.

His lyrics are great, blending smart pop culture references with some very perceptive takes on race and masculinity. And the tunes, produced in collaboration with frequent partner Ludwig Göransson, are true bangers. There’s an undeniable rawness and unfiltered nature to this record. While they be sleepin’, I be onto that new shit, ayy Oh, and as for the SOTD! Here Gambino is far more contemplative about his place in the music scene and the world and the music and the lyrics reflect that. As far as the new album “3.15.20” one of my favorite songs of his period is “39.28” a truly beautiful song about his father who passed away. There’s an apologetic nature to that line and the song “All the Shine”, but there’s also a content nature to it. On “Awaken my Love” I feel like he’s starting to come to terms with who he is and part of that is getting back in touch with his roots. I ain’t that dumb.
