Today we are exploring the Kuiper Belt. However saying this, we’ve known about Quaoar since 2002 and it’s still not a dwarf planet, so no guarantees!

Researchers believe these are only a tiny fraction of the total number of objects scientists think are out there. There are definitely more dwarf planets out there, and there are even some that we have even identified already. At the moment, we only have a few thousand objects from the Kuiper belt that have been identified and catalogued by astronomers. But what do we know now? The Kuiper belt is thought to be the source of most of the observed short-period comets, particularly those that orbit the Sun in less than 20 years, and for the icy Centaur objects, which have orbits in the region of the giant planets. Eris is a Kuiper Belt Object a little smaller than Pluto.

Although we knew that the Kuiper was probably out there in the 1950s, it was until 40 years later that we actually found the first KBO. So far the only planets in the kuiper belt are the dwarf planets Eris, Haumea, Makemake, Ceres, 90377 Sedna, 50000 Quaor, 225088 Gonggong, and 90482 Orcus.
