If you just want to measure and record your metrics then this is an excellent choice, but it's hard to score it higher than 'good' overall when route-finding, the app/site, and the control layout are flawed. It does beg the question: why doesn't the desktop routing work in the same way? Attempting to record a ride led rapidly (in just 0.08 miles, I can accurately report) to a frozen screen and a completely unresponsive unit. The app and web portal let it down a bit, but overall it's a very good package provided you don't want to plan long rides with turn-by-turn routing, or at least are prepared to … You have to add all your waypoints, and then calculate a route. Design-wise I wouldn't say it was as polished as units from the likes of Garmin and Wahoo; the Lezyne computers have come on quite a lot in design since they launched, but it has a slightly industrial feel to it.

Overall, with everything (app and desktop) considered: good. The fly in everyone's GPS ointment is, of course, Garmin. Help us to make it better. There's nothing that the Mega XL has issues with – poor desktop route creation, slow activity uploading, the slightly industrial feel to the unit itself and the user interface – that would prevent me from recommending it if you're looking for a computer that will let you follow a route for a long, long time. Most people who ride long distances have a charging strategy that'll involve a battery pack or a dynamo or both; the Mega XL is happy to charge from Micro USB as it's being used, and you can get a fair amount of charge into it at a cafe stop too if you prefer to do that. I'm not on Strava Summit so Live segments aren't something I use (they weren't anyway, even when I was), but the Mega XL supports them. It feels very convoluted compared with, say, Strava, where you can just drag the route about until you like it.
