We got to the festival at 3 because the email we had received said to arrive early to avoid traffic and that there would be plenty to do. The host of the lantern fest advised me that there are no refunds and although the event is sold out and tickets could easily be sold they will not provide a refund. Once it got closer to the launch time, they served us firewood where we could make s'mores with. Many people set off their lanterns early- which the host kept saying not to due to firecode. As we walked towards the event area, we scanned our tickets and picked up our lantern kit which consisted of our lantern, 2 wooden skewers, a marker, a lighter, and a s'more kit minus the chocolate. !The lanterns are not made to go far and not everyone follows directions,some come down,some go far. I would say just buy one and scan and print however many you want at a lower cost at your local photo store (Walgreens, CVS, etc. Luckily, we found a couple who were willing to share their camp area with us.
This was the part where I had to take a star off my rating because the wait was ridiculously not for taking the picture but for printing out your picture. So everyone just let them go when they were ready. Check out this amazing event and get your tickets before the price goes up! Props to the girl who was managing the cashier because a lot of people were frustrated and kind of tired of waiting. Getting in and out.
You pick up your paper lanterns, sticks (for s'mores), and box of goodies afterwards. Portable pottys were located on two sides of the speedway and seemed sufficient. Also, because of the crowding, some of the lanterns belonging to other patrons kept falling dangerously close to mine and her heads, almost burning our hair and clothes.

There were competitions for kids and adults (hula hoop competitions, juice-chugging competitions for kids, and root beer-chugging competitions for adults). They cancelled their event and don't respond to any of my emails. Use the torches that are put up around you, and make sure there's plenty of room in the lantern for air to fill it so it'll float. Inside the box also came with a marker to write on your lantern. We had decent sized group of around 12 people and was able to locate a pit easily. There is entertainment for kids, music playing, and food trucks to feed your belly!We didn't start the lantern activity until about 9:15pm.
We walked across the way and received our wristbands, lanterns, and a box kit of smores (without the chocolate---you go to a different area to get your chocolate). We parked our cars and walked through the gate where we were directed to go to a tent to get our wristbands. I imagined it, but it was beyond words when seeing it. We parked our cars and walked through the gate where we were directed to go to a tent to get our wristbands. Since we were a party of 3, we thought we'd ask if we could share with them. That was the only sucky part. There were many similarities to the Spokane lantern festival and it seemed like some of the lanterns I saw at this festival I saw at the Spokane one but there were many other lanterns that were new to me as well. Have been wanting to attend one of these for a while. 4) Release your lantern (well...after you take all your cute pics and all).It was pretty rushed though.
