Alot of people hate his "Spin2Win" style of play, which consists alot of the same Down/Side-B to random areal. Sonic is an iconic video game character and has history with the Sega vs Nintendo console wars.
Basically the same reasons people hate Melee Jigglypuff, but without rest to add hype.
Every other 3rd party character in smash has so much polish and attention to detail, except Sonic. In the manual on page 7, it says that the original, This is the only game for the PlayStation 3 that has.
The back of the cover says "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" but it shows Sonic the Hedgehog 3. "Must Be In X Amount of Good Games To Be In Super Smash Bros."?
So you have to spend more time slowing down for some precise platforming, and even then not on the same level as the Mario franchise, which benefited from being a slower, more precise game, rather than one built around BS like the whole, non-existent "Blast Processing" crap that Sonic was designed to advertise.

I think he keeps getting classified as hit-and-run, because people tend to play him that way. And besides, it wasn't even like the original 2D Sonic games were going to age gracefully all that much, compared to nearly every 2D Mario game ever produced.
Close. He's a contradictory character in that despite being so fast, he actually makes the game slow down, because he's a campy hit-and-run character instead of a rushdown character. Ryu's out of the game.
Well, a lot of people still find his old games, and some newer ones, really enjoyable. Salt aside, I appreciate the Hellsing Abridged reference. I hate hearing the term "hit-and-run."
He's in, so get over it, Commander Shep; Mass Effect will never be in Smash. He has a unique playstyle that involves going fast, hit and run, and there is apparently no counter.
Outside of that, he has a kill throw, a combo throw, and the most ridiculous F-smash in the game, that somehow everyone runs into and can kill at -2000% from across the stage. Archived.

But playing as him and playing against him are two different things. Sonic lost the war, and doesn't really have good games these days, but it shouldn't shit on his legacy as a supremely popular character.
The Sonic games are bad, but the characters themselves are super cool and well designed in my opinion. But believe it or not, that’s probably not why Nintendo France decided to ban Hero from the European Team Cup.

One suggestion is Sonic. Why do people want Sonic in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, when he kept appearing in so many bad games? As in SSB4, Roger Craig Smith's portrayal of Sonic from Sonic Generations and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic … This makes it hard for people to catch him, and since the sonic player basically only gets hit if they make a mistake, it can be frustrating to play against, and boring to watch. If you had to pick one fictional character to represent that entire decade, I can’t think of a better choice than Sonic.
