Be aware, climbing stairs necessary. The Mallory House was great with much history to offer. Built circa 1852 and renovated by James Neely family in 1890s.

Our tour guide informed us 98% of the home and furnishings are original.

This was an awesome experience,  I always complain about Memphis,  and how there is nothing to do! What restaurants are near Mallory-Neely House? What hotels are near Mallory-Neely House? So much original material and decorations. His daughter, Daisy Mallory, lived there until she died in 1969 at 98.

Our tour guide was an historian and did a fabulous job!! ).So great to see all the portraits, rooms, and furnishings, but my favorites were the stained glass front door panels, and the two enormous stained glass windows inside. We had the lucky accident of stopping by on a Friday, one of the two days they happen to be open for a tour (also open on Saturdays).There were only four of us in the group, plus the tour guide. Touring historical homes is a hobby of mine, and I must say, this place is on par with some of the best I've visited. Themes change throughout the year and the history is great. The Mallory-Neely House will be open to the public once again on November 9th. This one was beautiful, & had lots of interesting history. The guides were not 100% accustomed to the house but I think they will become more so in time. That said, it was still a great experience. additional level for the tower, only the 1st & 2nd floors are open for touring. Too bad that only a handful of these grand mansions have survived in Memphis. The tour guide was very interesting and knowledgeable, and gave excellent descriptions not only of the furnishings and architecture, but why the people of the house acted as they did. Excellent tour guide - welcoming, knowledgeable, with good pace for small group, answered questions beautifully.
