“I found it really disturbing, but also I felt like Mark kind of got his comeuppance,” Poulter says of his character’s fate. “After ‘Midsommar,’ I feel a little bit scared of sunlight and being out amongst nature during the day.
But that’s a fun character to play, to be that kind and also not be kind at all.
“So from middle management, up until senior levels, there seems to be a leak somewhere, there seems to be some kind of a freeze or ceiling that doesn’t allow leadership to progress to those levels.”
But I think internally, he’s very self-loathing, very insecure, and he also feels like a very regressive, out-of-date personality. More notable is his geniality, a sharp contrast from Poulter’s imposingly arched brows and recent roles — a corrupt police officer in “Detroit”; a video game programmer in the choose-your-own-adventure “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” — not least his turn as the unrelentingly obnoxious friend in “Midsommar.”.
