But Sylvia Simon is a lot of fun, considering her age, which I happen to know is sixty.

Don’t let New Jersey be too horrible. I’m so scared God. I read one of the articles that we were assigned to read and discovered that “Are You There God, Its Me Margaret?” was banned. We felt naughty reading it, and I was further shocked by my high school boyfriend’s mother reading adult Judy Bloom novels. First of all I never even heard of Farbrook. But fire is dangerous and powerful, and tragedy strikes.

I really think that Blume is an amazing author, and it’s incredible that she manages to get the mindset of preteen and teenage girls so right in her books. I think we left the city because of my grandmother, Sylvia Simon. And number two what would I care if they’re Jewish or not?
I hadn’t read this since I was a pre-teen and seeing the title brought back so many memories of my life then, I had to check this out again.
And she doesn’t do all that because we’re poor. What are your thoughts?

In fact I still can’t – if mine had waited until high school was over to arrive, that would have been JUST FINE. Blume doesn’t talk down to tweens and teens but talks to them with this book.
