Curious as to what it would be like to settle down in Carleton Place. People I've met and gotten to know here since I moved to the area a few years ago have all been super friendly. Unless you work nearby. The schools in the area are decent. I looked out there, but since I require having a consistent Internet line, I was looking at the new builds with fibre. Beautiful streetscapes, scenic trails and picturesque waterfront make this town one of a kind in the Ottawa Valley. It used to be a bit of a biker town in the 70s and 80s.
There are lots of pretty little parks and walking/biking paths around the town. When making this huge decision we weren't nervous as Chantal was there to answer all our questions and concerns. Year-over-year crime-9%Year over year crime is down. The conveniences of the city, with the friendliness of a small town make Carleton Place a wonderful place to live. What I will always remember is Todd and I had been pre-approved with 10% down so we knew that was going to be tough but again Chantal had a name for us to call and the next day we called a broker who found us a lender at 5% down….that was such a relief . There are nice areas, and not-so-nice. It is growing fast, many planned developments are under way.

Most of the $$$ went into athletic programs. There are still some seedy people and crime about the place. Carleton Place crime. There's fast food/casual/classy dining (If you haven't gone to Black Tartan, make an excuse. CP has a few lovely pubs (St James Gate, Smith and Barrel) but the shops in “downtown” seem to struggle to survive. Other than being stuck with xplornet for internet I have zero complaints. And like others have said some pretty nice places for eating and socializing. The neighbouring town of Mississippi Mills also came in at number 11 on the list. Lotsa good old fashioned incest and dope dealing in Carleton Place.
Carleton Place is the perfect fusion of modern convenience with small town charm. i died from being stabbed in that area last year. Chantal doesn't just sell you a house she took us from start to finish. Most of the poor youth who didn't have those opportunities ended up in trouble with the law very young. Carleton Place is conveniently located on the serene Mississippi River. Not sure about real estate in the past decade, but you could probably find a decent single family detached house for between $275-400k. My kid is not in school yet so I can’t comment on that.
We like it! There's affordable housing if you look hard and long enough. If you work in the city, commuting can be relatively quick with the divided highway, but that same road can be a real bastard in blizzard conditions.

Infrastructure is good (roads/plows/water/ etc..) and if you're in the "City" proper, it's sewers/city water and high speed internet. If you live there, are you happy with the neighbours/traffic/shops/services/schools/parks/community centres/etc. Its close enough to the city that it's not a big deal to run in for anything. A bit more choice when it comes to shopping now but still not over run. We wanted to get out of Ottawa and try a smaller town, just for some peace and quiet. I bought a car there at a place across the Ford Dealer.
