It meant I had access to an audience and ultimately mass exposure to the world – that I, Loyiso from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, could have his work known and celebrated in the United States, the United Kingdom, South America, et cetera. For one week each year, galleries, museums, arts organisations and artists, collaborate to create a strong public focus on the vibrant art scene of your city. About the exhibition: We are a people coming into our own and it’s time for us then to claim our own standard.

Loyiso Mkize was born in 1987 in Butterworth in the Eastern Cape but studied in Cape Town where he completed a Diploma in Graphic Design at CPUT.

Also including ART WEEK CAPE TOWN, which has run successfully for a number of years, ART WEEK is an initiative aimed at increasing visibility, and strengthening the visual arts industry in cities throughout South Africa.

Loyiso generally paints with oil paint on canvass. His ability to paint carries with it an intention to communicate ideas that he finds most important in his life.
