Bernie Mac was one of my favorite comedians, but I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much out of this film. Great collection of turkeys that deserve the hilarious riffs. Luckily, it feels as though the 2000s-era culture of bitter, snarky film criticism is abating somewhat, with formerly characteristic outlets ... aspiring to a new level of sophistication and discourse, so they don't stagnate as one-joke yuksters. Technically, you could still watch this new season in a random order (as long as you began with the first episode and ended with the season finale), but the increase in serialization actually works nicely to tie the season together.
Essentially a "Major League" "rethinking" (meaning they blatantly stole the plot), with the story emphasis concentrated mainly on the old timer's personal redemption. It is exciting to hear what pop culture references the writers have chosen to mine for the new season. Regal Bernie Mac is good here and is perfect for the role that he plays. All rights reserved.
